Open Question: Huskies and switching climates (hot to cold)?

I'm going to go get a Siberian Husky puppy today but I have a serious question. Right now I live in California, super hot weather. But I'm going to college next year in Alaska and I need to know if he'll be OK. I know Huskies were made for snow, but is growing up in the heat going to change his ability to cope with extreme cold? Thanks in advance guys. EDIT: I'm moving to Fairbanks and I plan on living in a dry cabin. Cheap and a lot of them allow dogs. And yeah, I know dogs are a big responsibility.
